Sea turmoil; The situation in Ernakulam is complicated

The spread of covid in Ernakulam district continues to be extremely serious. A total of 5026 cases have been newly confirmed in the district. This brings the total number of patients in the district to 68,731. The situation was further complicated by the intensification of sea level rise along the coast where the covid expansion was strong.

Covid continues to spread in Ernakulam district irrespective of village or city. The test positivity rate in Ernakulam on Thursday was 28.56. The number of patients undergoing covid positive treatment is higher in Ernakulam than in other districts. At present 12 panchayats in the district have test positive rates above 50 per cent. Earlier it was nineteen panchayats. Covid is spreading rapidly within the limits of Thrikkakara municipality which is adjacent to Kochi city. More than a hundred new cases are reported here on most days. Last day it reached 243. Large number of new cases are being reported in Palluruthy and Tripunithura, which are close to the city.

At the same time, after covid, the sea level rise in the coastal areas of Kochi also complicated matters. In many places, people have to be evacuated en masse to relief camps. The district collector visited the area and assessed the situation.
