Air India Express Plans 40% Increase in Flights Amid Fleet Expansion

Low-cost carrier Air India Express is gearing up for a significant expansion, aiming to operate 40% more flights in the next fiscal year. The surge in flight operations is attributed to the airline’s ongoing fleet expansion efforts. Despite focusing on consolidating domestic routes, the carrier anticipates a marginal increase in its international network. Currently operating 350 daily flights with a fleet of 69 planes, Air India Express has outlined plans to commence flights to Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka in the upcoming summer schedule.

In line with its growth strategy, the airline is set to complete the acquisition of its 50 Boeing 737 Max planes order by December this year. The merger with AirAsia India is also on the horizon, with expectations to finalize the process by the second quarter of the next fiscal. This strategic move is expected to bring all of AirAsia India’s fleet under Air India Express’s air operator permit, positioning the carrier for further expansion and market consolidation.
