The monsoon will intensify in Kerala, prompting a yellow alert in seven districts.

Despite a weak monsoon, Kerala is expected to receive heavy rain over the next three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In seven districts, a yellow alert has been issued: Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kasaragod.

Thunderstorms with lightning are expected in one or two locations in Kerala.

Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to exercise extreme caution.

High-speed winds of 40-50 kmph are expected in the open seas over the Arabian Sea’s southwest and west-central regions.

Fishermen are also advised not to go out into the sea.

Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, which usually receives a lot of rain during the monsoon season, had a 49% rainfall deficit.

While Kerala experienced a 29% decrease in rainfall during the monsoon, India experienced a 37% increase over the long-term average.

Northwest India had the highest excess (74%), followed by central India (58 per cent).
