Festive season in Kerala leads to banana price hitting rupees 120

Kochi: The rate of banana has hit rupees per kilogram in Kerala. Owing to the demand during onam the ‘njalipoovan’ variety of banana has crossed an all-time high price.

Besides those who cultivated njalipoovan variety of banana, middlemen and sellers also profited from the sale of this variety.

Less sugar content has made it dearest to diabetic patients. Often coined the “original 100- calorie snack”, yellow bananas are an excellent, healthy, grab”n”go food.

Despite being just over 100 calories, bananas are high in fiber- meaning they will keep you feeling full, for a longer period of time than foods with lower fiber content. Moreover tradition of serving njalipoovan along with Onasadya has made it in demand.

However, sellers said huge destruction caused to banana cultivation in flood have pushed the price of njalipoovan.
