Aadhaar Not Compulsory for Voter Registration, Confirms Election Commission

The Election Commission of India has informed the Supreme Court that registering as a voter does not require an Aadhaar number. The commission clarified its stance in response to a public interest petition filed by G Niranjan, a Congress leader from Telangana, challenging the laws and regulations related to the linkage of voter ID cards and Aadhaar. As a result, the petition was dismissed by a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Mishra.
