Honors at Rashtrapati Bhavan: Usha Uthup Receives Padma Bhushan, Rezwana Choudhury Bannya Gets Padma Shri

Renowned singer Usha Uthup was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan by President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Uthup, known for her captivating voice and memorable hits like ‘Ramba Ho Ho’ and ‘Hari Om Hari’, expressed her delight, calling it a “fantastic feeling”. The Padma Shri award was bestowed upon bhajan singer Kaluram Bamaniya and Bangladeshi singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya for their contributions to the arts. Bamaniya is celebrated for his soulful renditions of verses by Kabir, Mirabai, and Gorakhnath, while Bannya is recognized as an exponent of Rabindra Sangeet. Additionally, Padma Vibhushan was conferred upon Bharatnatyam dancer Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam for her significant contributions to the field.

President Murmu also honored other notable figures in the arts, including folk dancer Gopinath Swain and Krishna Leela performer Narayanan E.P., with the Padma Shri. These awards recognize their dedication to promoting traditional art forms and preserving cultural heritage. The Padma Awards, announced annually on the eve of Republic Day, acknowledge exceptional contributions across various fields. This year’s recipients include actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty and music composer Pyarelal Sharma of the renowned duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The awards seek to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to public service and excellence in their respective domains.
