Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported in its weekly epidemiological update on Wednesday that the Delta COVID-19 variation, first found in India, has been detected in 96 countries, 11 more than last week.

According to a recent study conducted in Scotland and published in the international medical journal Lancet, people infected with the Delta variation had an 85 percent greater hospitalisation rate than those infected with the Alpha variant. “This specific Delta form is faster, fitter, and it will pick up the most vulnerable more quickly than prior variants,” Michael Ryan, executive head of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Program, was reported by ANI as saying.
