COVID-19: 12,443 new cases were reported in Kerala on Saturday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 12,443 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total to 27,97,747 cases.

As many as 13,145 people were cured of the infection, bringing the total number of people cured to 26,78,499.

According to a press release from Health Minister Veena George, the number of active cases has reached 1,06,861.

In the last 24 hours, 1,21,743 samples were tested, with a test positivity rate of 10.22%.

With the addition of 115 deaths on Saturday, the state’s death toll now stands at 11,948.

73 of the positive cases were health workers, 78 were from outside the state, and 11,639 were infected through contact. The source of 653 of them’s infection is unknown.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday that COVID-19 cases in the state had decreased by 42%, but that people should remain cautious because “we are now dealing with a highly contagious delta variant of the virus.”
