Food poison; Four-year-old boy diagnosed with Shigella

Shigella infection has been diagnosed in one of the four children who were admitted to a hospital in Malappuram after experiencing vomiting, diarrhoea, and fever. It is reported that the children suffered from food poisoning after consuming ‘Kuzhimanthi’ and mayonnaise.

A four-year-old boy from Kanjirattukunnu in Malappuram has been diagnosed with an intestinal infection and is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Government Medical College in Kozhikode. According to the parents, the children began experiencing symptoms of food poisoning after consuming ‘Kuzhimanthi’ and mayonnaise from a restaurant in Manjeri.

They were taken to Manjeri Medical College that same night, and the four-year-old boy was subsequently transferred to Kozhikode Medical College when his condition deteriorated. He was diagnosed with a Shigella infection. The family has lodged a complaint with the food safety officer seeking action against the restaurant from where the kids had consumed food.
