Kerala’s Sajan Prakash Triumphs at Goa National Games, Sets New Record in Swimming

Kerala’s swimming sensation, Sajan Prakash, kicked off the Goa National Games with a remarkable feat, setting a new record and clinching the gold medal in the men’s 100m butterfly stroke. Prakash’s stellar performance saw him finish in a mere 53.79 seconds, establishing a Games record that left spectators in awe. His exceptional achievement overshadowed his competitors, outpacing Tamil Nadu’s B. Rohit, who, despite a promising start, had to settle for third place with a timing of 55.00 seconds. Maharashtra’s Mihir Ambre secured the silver medal, completing the race in 54.32 seconds.

But Prakash’s triumph didn’t stop there; he continued to shine in the competition by securing a silver medal for Kerala in the men’s 200m freestyle event, finishing with an impressive time of 1 minute 51.10 seconds.

Kerala’s success story in the Goa National Games also includes notable performances by M S Athira, who claimed the silver medal in Pencak Silat fighting, and M T Ann Maria, who secured silver in the women’s weightlifting 87 kg category.

However, despite these individual achievements, Kerala’s overall performance at the national games began on a challenging note. The state’s athletes have so far amassed 3 gold, 8 silver, and 3 bronze medals, signaling both the challenges and the determination that mark this prestigious sporting event. As the games progress, Kerala’s athletes are sure to continue their quest for victory, showcasing the spirit and resilience that define the true essence of sportsmanship.
