Commonwealth Games 2022; Sanket Sargar bags India’s first medal

India bagged the first medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. Sanket Mahadev Sargar won the 55kg weight lighting category at the Commonwealth Games here on Saturday. Sanket lifted a total of 248 kg but came second after suffering an injury in the second attempt. Meanwhile, Malaysian Mohammed Aniq bagged gold by lifting 141kg (249 kg total) in the third attempt of the clean and jerk stage.

The bronze medal went to Dilanka Yodage of Sri Lanka with a total lift of 225kg. The 21-year-old, who graced cattle to feed his family in Maharashtra, successfully lifted 113 kg in his third attempt to gun for India’s first gold in the Commonwealth games on Saturday.
