Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and High Waves Expected in Kerala

The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning for potential heavy rainfall in the state of Kerala today. A yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur. According to the Central Meteorological Department, there is a chance of moderate rainfall occurring at isolated locations throughout all Kerala districts in the next three hours.

Simultaneously, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has provided information indicating the likelihood of waves reaching heights of 1.5 to 1.8 meters and a sea surge along the Kerala coastline until 11:30 tonight. Coastal residents and fishermen have been urged to remain vigilant. The advisory emphasizes that due to the expected rough sea conditions, individuals should adhere to authorities’ instructions and avoid venturing into hazardous areas.

It is recommended to securely moor fishing vessels such as boats and canoes in the harbor. Maintaining a safe distance between boats can mitigate the risk of collisions, and ensuring the safety of fishing equipment is crucial. The Center for Oceanography and Research has advised against trips to the beach and any sea-related activities.

Additionally, the Meteorological Center has indicated the possibility of heavy rainfall persisting in the state until September 10.
