Declining Nipah Concerns in Kerala, No Indication of a Second Wave

Kerala is witnessing a decline in Nipah virus concerns, with the health department assessing that there has been no emergence of a second wave. This assessment is supported by the absence of new Nipah cases, providing reassurance. Nonetheless, strict restrictions remain in place in Kozhikode, where a central team is also continuing its efforts. Ministers Mohammad Riaz and Veena George are actively involved in Kozhikode’s situation.

Currently, there are a total of 1233 individuals on the contact list, with 352 categorized as high risk, including 129 healthcare workers. Additionally, 23 individuals are receiving treatment at the medical college, four at the mother and child care center, and three in a private hospital, all displaying symptoms. Notably, 36 bat samples have been collected and sent for testing in Poonaik, while testing labs remain operational around the clock.

In response to the ongoing situation, Kozhikode District Collector A Geetha has announced that educational institutions will conduct online classes from today until the 23rd. This measure has been implemented to ensure that students do not face interruptions in their studies during extended breaks. The order mandates that all educational institutions, including tuition centers and coaching centers, must conduct their classes online, with students advised not to visit physical educational facilities for the time being.
