Milma Initiates School Kiosks to Combat Drug Infiltration with Sweets

The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) is set to introduce 300 kiosks across schools in Kerala to counteract the influence of drug gangs using sweets as their medium. The initiative aims to establish these kiosks within the school premises, offering a range of products such as ice cream, zip up, peda, biscuits, and milk.

Originally piloted by Malabar Milma, the program was initiated in both aided and unaided schools in November. Pending approval from the education department, the plan will be expanded to government schools with the collaboration of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). This decision comes in response to police reports highlighting concerns about shops within school premises distributing sweets containing intoxicating substances.

Milma’s marketing department is currently preparing a list for the implementation of the initiative. The three Milma unions in the state will launch a fixed number of kiosks this year, each equipped with items worth Rs 1 lakh, including a specially designed kiosk, refrigerator, and coffee vending machine. The school’s PTA will receive a fixed profit as a dealer commission, providing economic benefits to the school and creating job opportunities within the community.
