Kerala Braces for Heavy Rainfall; Yellow Alert Issued in Two Districts

The Central Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in Kerala today, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert in Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts. The forecast indicates the likelihood of light rain in Kollam over the next three hours. This marks the beginning of a four-day spell of continuous rain across the state. The yellow alert remains in effect for Kollam and Pathanamthitta on Sunday, extending to Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Monday. The alert warns of the potential for isolated heavy rain, defined as rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

In the wake of the heavy rain yesterday, Valakam town in Kollam is grappling with waterlogging issues. The downpour has overwhelmed the drainage system, particularly at Valakam junction, where water is not flowing efficiently due to the construction of safety corridors on both sides of the road. The town is experiencing difficulties in managing water flow, highlighting the need for immediate attention to address the waterlogging concerns exacerbated by the ongoing rain.
