Cheruvally Estate Chosen as Best Location for Sabarimala Airport, Confirms Chief Minister

The Chief Minister has affirmed that the most suitable location for the Sabarimala Airport is the Cheruvally Estate. With a proposed area of 2268.13 acres, the estate has been designated for the airport. During a legislative session, the Chief Minister conveyed that the Ministry of Aviation’s authorization would be contingent on a 3500-meter runway, a requirement exclusively fulfilled by the Cheruvally Estate.

To accommodate this, a land acquisition of 307 acres will be necessary for the runway, extending beyond the confines of the Cheruvally Estate. The Cheruvally project, initially conceived as a feeder airport for Nedumbassery, has evolved into an international airport aspiration.

The objective is to construct the largest runway in the state. The distance between the chosen airport site in Cheruvalli and Sabarimala measures 48 km.

Should the airport materialize, the influx of foreign pilgrims to Sabarimala is anticipated to rise, thereby augmenting the airport’s viability. The airport’s benefits will extend to expatriates in the Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts.
