The Caseload of India COVID-19 is rising to 2,96 crore with 62,224 new infections

New Delhi: India’s COVID-19 caseload increased to 2.96 crores on Wednesday (June 16, 2021), with 62,224 new infections in the previous 24 hours.

The country’s coronavirus active count has now dropped to 8,65,432, less than 9 lakh after 70 days, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The weekly positivity rate in India has fallen to 4.17 percent, while the daily positivity rate has risen to 3.22 percent.

On the other hand, there were 2,542 coronavirus-related deaths in the country, with 1,07,628 recoveries. There have been 3,79,573 deaths in India, with 2.83 crore COVID-19 recoveries.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday evening, India’s total COVID-19 vaccination coverage surpassed 26 crores. This occurred on the 151st day of the country’s nationwide vaccination campaign.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Centre issued a statement in response to reports alleging a lack of sequencing in the country as well as significant lags between sample collection and sequence submission into the database for pattern detection and actionable alerts to governments.

It was clarified that a sampling strategy is based on the country’s objectives, scientific principles, and WHO guidelines. The Centre also stated that the strategy was reviewed and revised on a regular basis.
