Allegations of Irregularities in Kerala Onam Bumper Lottery Surface: Ticket Sold in Black Market Raises Concerns

A resident of Tamil Nadu has raised concerns about the Kerala Onam bumper lottery, alleging that the first prize was won by a ticket sold in the black market in Tamil Nadu. The complainant, D Anburose, owner of Brinda Charitable Trust, has formally reported the incident to the Kerala Chief Minister and the Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries.

According to the complaint, the winning lottery ticket was sold in specific areas of Tamil Nadu through a commission-based agency in Kerala, which violates the law prohibiting the sale of Kerala state lotteries in other states. Anburose has urged the Kerala government to utilize the prize money for charitable purposes, arguing that the individual who facilitated the black market sale received the prize.

The Kerala lottery department has a dedicated committee to investigate such cases involving winners from other states. Officials have clarified that Kerala lottery tickets should not be sold outside the state. However, if the ticket was purchased within Kerala, the prize money will be awarded following a thorough inquiry.
