Commemorating the Century Since the Demise of Mahakavi Kumaran Asan

Today marks the solemn occasion of the century since the untimely demise of Mahakavi Kumaran Asan, the luminary who illuminated Malayalam poetry with his progressive thoughts. Despite not composing an epic poem, Kumaran Asan earned the revered title of ‘Mahakavi.’ His life was cut short tragically in the Redeemer boat accident on January 16, 1924, in the Pallana River in Alappuzha.

In commemoration of this significant milestone, a poetry stage will be set at the ‘Daiva Dasakam’ centenary Memorial Building in Sivagiri at 10:30 am tomorrow. The platform will feature recitations of Asan’s poems and compositions dedicated to his memory. The conference will be inaugurated by Swami Satchidananda, President of Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust, following the poetry presentation. Swami Avyayananda will preside over the Asan commemoration, joined by esteemed personalities, including sages of Sivagiri Mutt, Manju Vellayani, Ambalapuzha Rajagopal, Haridas Balakrishnan, B. Shihad, Babupakkanar, and others. The event stands as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Mahakavi Kumaran Asan in the realm of Malayalam literature.
