Nurse Suspended for Administering Incorrect Medicine to Five-Day-Old Infant

A nurse has been temporarily suspended after mistakenly giving a vaccine meant for a newborn baby only five days old. JPHN Charuta, an employee at Palakkad Pirayiri Primary Health Center, is facing suspension while an inquiry takes place. This action comes in response to the nurse’s admission of the mistake during the initial investigation conducted by the District Medical Officer.

The incident revolves around a male infant, just five days old, from Pallikulam. The child’s parents had taken him to the primary health center for a BCG injection. Regrettably, the administered vaccine was intended for infants 45 days after birth. Additionally, family members claim that the hospital staff treated them inappropriately. In response, the District Medical Officer has launched a comprehensive investigation into the situation. The baby is currently being monitored at Palakkad district hospital.
