Monthly Payment Controversy Involving Chief Minister’s Daughter and UDF Leaders Sparks Assembly Discussion

The ongoing debate regarding the monthly remuneration provided to Veena Vijayan, daughter of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, will not lead to a suspension of proceedings in the assembly. Sources indicate that the opposition intends to refrain from exploiting the issue for political gain, as the list of recipients encompasses notable UDF leaders as well.

Veena received a regular stipend from a private firm called Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL). The Income Tax Interim Settlement Board’s New Delhi branch disclosed that this payment was made due to her association with a prominent individual.

The order detailing Veena Vijayan’s transactions also features the chief minister’s name. Prominent opposition figures like Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala, and Kunhalikutty are reported to have accepted payments as well. However, the specific amounts received by each individual remain undisclosed.

Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited’s Chief Financial Officer, K S Suresh Kumar, reportedly remarked that these funds were provided to politicians to facilitate the smooth operation of their business endeavors.”
