Indian Archers Deotale-Jyothi Secure Gold in Compound Mixed Team Event at Asian Games

The Indian archery pair, Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, displayed supreme confidence as they clinched the gold medal in the compound mixed team event at the Asian Games. Facing their South Korean counterparts in the final, the Indian duo showcased remarkable precision, dropping just one point to secure their victory with a score of 159-158. This triumph marks their second gold medal in archery at the ongoing Games.

This win places India on the verge of securing at least four medals, surpassing their previous best at the Incheon Asian Games in 2014. The Indian archers had a flawless performance in the semifinals against the Kazakh pair, Adel Zhexenbinova and Andrey Tyutyun, with the Indian team scoring all ’10s’ except for one ‘9’.

In the final, the Indian pair was challenged by Malaysia but displayed resilience and skill. Despite a tense moment in the second end, where they momentarily fell behind, the Indian archers regained their composure. Jyothi’s accurate shot in the deciding fourth end proved to be decisive, securing the gold medal for India. This victory comes after the Indian archers confirmed three medals on the previous day, matching their best-ever achievement from the Incheon 2014 Games.
