BJP Unveils Initial Candidate List for Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its initial list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. In Chhattisgarh, the party has nominated 21 candidates, including five women, while in Madhya Pradesh, 39 candidates have been named, also featuring five women. Notable inclusions are Vijay Baghel, the BJP’s Durg MP, who will contest from Patan, a seat currently held by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of the Congress.

The list was finalized during a meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Committee, headed by party chief J P Nadda. This meeting saw the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah, and other senior leaders.

In Chhattisgarh, the BJP’s candidates include names like Bhulan Singh Maravi, Laxmi Rajwade, Shakuntala Singh Porthe, Sarla Kosaria, Alka Chandrakar, Gita Ghasi Sahu, and Maniram Kashyap, among others.

For Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has nominated Sarla Vijendra Rawat, Priyanka Meena, Lalita Yadav, Anchal Sonkar, Nirmala Bhuriya, Bhanu Bhuriya, Alok Sharma, and Dhruv Narayan Singh, among others.

This early announcement of candidates underscores the BJP’s focus on the upcoming state elections, which serve as a crucial precursor to the pivotal Lok Sabha polls. Apart from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram are also set to hold elections later this year. The BJP, currently in power in Madhya Pradesh, is striving to dislodge the Congress government in Chhattisgarh. In the previous elections, the BJP secured 15 out of 90 seats in the Chhattisgarh assembly, while the Congress won 68 seats. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP won 109 seats out of 230, whereas the Congress secured 114 seats.
