Malayali Athlete Ancy Sojan Clinches Silver in Asian Games Women’s Long Jump

In a remarkable display of athleticism, Malayali athlete Ancy Sojan claimed a silver medal in the women’s long jump at the ongoing Asian Games. Ancy, hailing from Thrissur, soared to success on her fifth attempt, achieving a personal best of 6.63 meters and securing a coveted spot on the podium.

India’s tally of silver medals in the long jump event now stands at two, both proudly brought home by Malayali athletes. Murali Sreeshankar, based in Palakkad, clinched a silver medal in the Men’s Long Jump Final, leaping to an impressive 8.19 meters.

In the women’s long jump competition, China’s Shiqi Xiong showcased exceptional skills, breaking her own records with a remarkable jump of 6.73 meters, earning her a well-deserved gold medal. The bronze medal went to Nga Yan from Hong Kong, who achieved a personal best of 6.50 meters.

Another Indian contender in the women’s long jump, Shaili Singh, put up a valiant effort but fell short of securing a medal. She finished in the fifth position with a jump measuring 6.48 meters. Despite the mixed outcomes, Ancy Sojan’s stellar performance stands as a testament to the talent and dedication of Indian athletes on the international stage.
