Chandrayaan-3’s Lander Module Progresses Towards Moon, Sends Images

Chandrayaan-3’s Lander Module has accomplished a successful deboosting maneuver, bringing it closer to the Moon, while ISRO assures that its condition remains normal.

The Lander Module, comprising the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover, is set to undergo a second deboosting operation on August 20, aiming to position it in an orbit much nearer to the Moon’s surface.

ISRO has released images transmitted by the lander. The planned soft landing on the Lunar south pole is scheduled for August 23.

ISRO’s recent communication states, “The health of the Lander Module (LM) remains optimal. The LM underwent a successful deboosting operation, adjusting its orbit to 113 km x 157 km. The next deboosting operation is planned for August 20, 2023, approximately at 0200 Hrs. IST.”

Following the launch of the satellite on July 14, Chandrayaan-3’s Lander Module separated effectively from the Propulsion Module on Thursday, after a 35-day span.
