Kerala Introduces Comprehensive Curriculum Reform After a Decade: New Textbooks Approved

In a significant move, the state of Kerala has introduced comprehensive curriculum reform in its schools after a gap of 10 years. Education Minister V Sivankutty announced the approval of new textbooks by the Curriculum Committee, marking a crucial step in reshaping the education system. The Curriculum Steering Committee has given the nod to 173 textbooks, covering classes 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. Over 900 teachers actively contributed to the curriculum reform process, which spanned one and a half years. This initiative aims to bring about substantial changes and improvements in the education system, making it more relevant and updated.

One notable feature of the newly approved textbooks is the inclusion of the Malayalam alphabet in all books. The curriculum reform was carried out in a transparent and inclusive manner, involving the opinions of over 900 teachers, children, and feedback at the panchayat level. This comprehensive approach ensures that the curriculum aligns with the needs and aspirations of the students, providing a modern and engaging learning experience. The last significant curriculum reform in Kerala took place in 2007, with some adjustments made in 2013. The latest move is expected to pave the way for a more dynamic and contemporary education system in the state.
