Assembly Session Concludes Today with Deliberation on Six Bills; By-Election Impact on Schedule

Today marks the conclusion of the ongoing assembly session during which six bills will be deliberated. The decision to abbreviate the session was prompted by the announcement of upcoming by-elections in Puthupally. The assembly, which concludes today, is scheduled to reconvene for a four-day session starting September 11.

The final schedule for the assembly session will be determined by the 24th of this month. Notably, the Puthupally by-elections are set for September 5, and active campaigning has led to the absence of many MLAs and ministers from the session. Consequently, a mutual agreement was reached between the ruling party and the opposition to curtail the ongoing meeting.

While the UDF has identified its candidate for Puthupally, the LDF and NDA are yet to announce their respective contenders. The by-elections are slated for September 5, with vote counting scheduled for the 8th, ushering in the enforcement of the model code of conduct. Nomination papers can be submitted until August 17, and the scrutiny of these papers will take place on the 18th.
