The Indian Supreme Court has dismissed the criminal case against Italian marines accused of murdering two Indian fishermen.

The FIR and proceedings in the case against the two Italian marines were quashed by a vacation bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and M R Shah.

The bench stated that the Republic of Italy will continue its investigation into the case by the international arbitral award that India has accepted.

The Supreme Court deemed the Republic of Italy’s settlement of Rs 10 crore, in addition to the previous award, to be “fair and sufficient.”

It stated that out of the Rs 10 crore compensation, Rs 4 crore will be deposited in the names of two deceased Kerala fishermen’s heirs, and Rs 2 crore will be granted to the boat’s owner. In February of that year,

India had accused two marines on board the MV Enrica Lexie, an Italian-flagged oil tanker, of killing two Indian fishermen on a fishing vessel in the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
