Ayesha Sultana departs for Lakshadweep to face charges, vowing to fight for justice.

Ayesha Sultana, a filmmaker and activist, left for the island on Saturday to appear before the Kavaratti Police, who had presented her with a summons to appear before them on Sunday evening.

Abdul Khader, the unit president of the Lakshadweep BJP, filed the complaint after a TV channel debate on June 7 in which she claimed that the ‘Centre employed biological weapons for the spread of Covid in Lakshadweep,’ which she claims is anti-national.

Sultana said she had done nothing illegal while appearing on a Malayalam TV channel to discuss the rise of COVID on the island.

“I have done nothing wrong, and I will come before the police tomorrow as they have requested,” Sultana stated, accompanied by her lawyer.

She also stated that she had done nothing to harm the country and that she would continue to fight until the Islanders were given justice by the administration.

She had filed a petition with the Kerala high court seeking anticipatory relief since she was afraid of being arrested.

The court, on the other hand, ordered her to come before the police, and if they think it necessary to arrest her, she should be released on bond.

Sub Inspector Ameer Bin Mohammed served Sultana with accusations under sections 124 A and 153 B of the Criminal Procedure Code, both of which are non-bailable offences.

In the aftermath of Khader’s move, several BJP leaders and workers on the island have resigned from the party.

Sultana is situated in Lakshadweep and hails from Chelath Island. She has worked in a number of Malayalam films in addition to modelling.
