India experiences a modest increase in daily COVID-19 cases, with 45,951 new infections recorded in 24 hours.

In the meantime, the total number of vaccination doses administered in the country has reached 33.28 crores. Almost 9 crore people in 37 states and UTs have received their first dose, with over 20 lakh receiving their second. More than 50 lakh first doses of COVID-19 vaccination have been provided in eight states: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

There are now 5,37,064 active coronavirus cases in the country. The national weekly positivity percentage is currently 2.69 percent, with a daily positivity rate of 2.34 percent.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, there were 817 fatalities and 60,729 recoveries. The overall number of cases in India has now reached 3,03,62,848, of which 2,94,27,330 have recovered and 3,98,454 have died as a result of the infection.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Centre directed all states and UTs to focus on the five-pronged COVID-19 management approach.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said in a letter to the Chief Secretaries that states should regularly monitor districts with a high number of active coronavirus cases per million (10 lakh) population because it is an important indicator for predicting the need for upgrading health infrastructure and logistics.

“There should be a constant focus on the five-pronged strategy for effective COVID-19 management, namely test-track-treat-vaccination and adherence to COVID-appropriate behavior,” he stated.

As states begin to lift lockdown and curfew rules, Bhalla cautioned that the process should be ‘well-calibrated.’

“While relaxing the limits, it must be guaranteed that adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour does not deteriorate,” the home secretary stated.

He also stated that states must take immediate and targeted action in accordance with the Union Health Ministry’s advisory.

“States and UTs should keep a careful eye on case positivity and bed occupancy on a regular basis, with districts serving as administrative entities.”

“Any early sign of a rise in the case positive rate and higher bed occupancy should prompt urgent action for containment and strengthening the health infrastructure,” he said.
