Kochi Water Metro Launches Service to Fort Kochi

The Kochi Water Metro has initiated its service to Fort Kochi, a move expected to benefit both the public and tourists alike. The inaugural service from High Court Terminal to Fort Kochi took place on Sunday, with Kochi Metro Rail Ltd’s managing director Loknath Behera and celebrity travel vlogger Santhosh George Jacob among the passengers.

As the model code of conduct for the April 26 Lok Sabha elections is currently in place, there was no formal inaugural function. The fare for the journey from High Court Junction to Fort Kochi is set at Rs 40, with services scheduled to run every 20 minutes.

Anticipating a significant influx of tourists, the Kochi Metro, which operates the Water Metro services, aims to provide a hassle-free mode of transportation to Fort Kochi, thereby alleviating concerns regarding traffic congestion.

Fort Kochi Terminal, being one of the city’s major tourist attractions, marks the ninth terminal in the Water Metro network. Other terminals include Vyttila, Vypeen, Kakkanad, Bolgatty, South Chittoor, Cheranalloor, and Eloor. Notably, Kochi becomes the first city in India to introduce a water metro service, further enhancing its transportation infrastructure.
