Intense Heat Wave Expected in Kerala, Rainfall Unlikely

The most recent report by the Indian meteorological department suggests that Kerala will experience a lack of rainfall in the upcoming days, with the state expected to endure scorching heat, as predicted by the IMD. Currently, Kollam has marked the highest temperature within the region, and it is anticipated that the district’s temperature could reach 36 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

According to the IMD, the temperature may elevate to 35 degrees Celsius in districts such as Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Palakkad, and reach up to 34 degrees Celsius in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur. In light of the rising heat, the Disaster Management Department has issued precautionary guidelines for the public.

Guidelines include:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking water regularly, even if not feeling thirsty. Refrain from consuming dehydrating beverages like alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated drinks.
  • Opt for loose and light-colored cotton clothing.
  • Individuals involved in online food delivery should exercise caution while traveling during peak afternoon hours.
  • Consume ample fruits and vegetables.
  • Prevent cattle from grazing under the midday sun and avoid leaving domestic animals tied up in direct sunlight.
