Ghaziabad Police is asking that Twitter India MD report within 7 days to the police station.

Ghaziabad Police has issued a written summons to Twitter India’s Managing Director, instructing him to appear at the Loni police station within seven days to record his statement. This comes after the Ghaziabad Police arrested several journalists, Congress leaders, Twitter Inc, and Twitter Communications India Pvt for tweets related to a video of an elderly Muslim man allegedly being assaulted.

Abdul Samad Saifi, the man, claimed that the accused offered him an auto ride, drove him to an isolated location, and beat him up while forcing him to chant Jai Shri Ram. According to police, the accused beat him up because he sold them a “tabeez (amulet)” that they thought didn’t work.

“Some people used Twitter as a platform to spread hatred and animosity among people. Twitter did not notice such messages, but rather encouraged them to spread enmity and disrupt harmony among communities in the country/states. Such messages were also permitted to spread. The case is under investigation, and your participation is required. “Please report to the Loni Border Police within seven days of receiving this letter to register your response,” read the police letter to Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari.
