Farmers’ Delhi Chalo March: Protestors Equip Themselves with Armour and Gas Masks, Haryana-Punjab High Court to Play Crucial Role

Farmers participating in the “Dilli Chalo” march have geared up with state-of-the-art tear gas-proof goggles, gas masks, and bulletproof armor in anticipation of potential clashes with the police. The Shambhu border, dividing Haryana and Punjab, witnessed protesters equipped with protective gear to withstand rubber bullets and tear gas. Some wore trekker-style goggles, and reports suggest the presence of bulletproof armor among the demonstrators.

The protestors aim to break through police barricades following signals from farmers’ leaders. The preparations indicate the seriousness of the farmers’ resolve to press their demands, including legislation for minimum support prices, implementation of the MS Swaminathan Commission report, pension for farmers and agricultural workers, and agricultural debt waivers.

In response to the heightened tensions, Punjab has objected to Haryana Police using drones to cross its border. The leaders in Haryana are set to meet to discuss future programs, chaired by Gurnam Singh Charuni.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij questioned the Congress’s inaction during its tenure regarding the Minimum Support Price issue, highlighting the need for effective measures. Internet bans in seven districts of Haryana have been extended, including Ambala and Kurukshetra.

The Haryana-Punjab High Court’s stance is crucial as it considers a petition against police arrangements, assessing the actions of the Central Government, Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi. The All India Lawyers’ Union condemned the Supreme Court Bar Association’s call for action against disruptive farmers.

The Punjab government pledged to bear the medical expenses of farmers injured during police actions on the Punjab-Haryana border. Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh visited injured protesters at a hospital in Patiala.
