BREAKING: The Telangana government has been asked to set limitations to prevent the spread of Omicron during Christmas and New Year’s celebrations

New Delhi: On Thursday (December 23, 2021), the Hyderabad High Court asked the Telangana administration to apply restrictions to prohibit public gatherings over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The directive was issued in response to the increasing number of cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

Telangana, after Maharashtra and Delhi, is one of the three worst-affected states in India in terms of Omicron.

On Wednesday, the state reported 14 more Omicron cases, bringing the total number of infections with the novel coronavirus type to 38.

According to the state health department, 259 travellers were inspected at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday, with four cases testing positive for RTPCR. All four samples of travellers from “at risk” nations were sent for Genome Sequencing, and two of them tested positive for the Omicron variation.

The findings of the four samples are still pending.

12 samples were also tested positive for the variant from a random sampling basis from other than “At risk” countries.
