Kerala logs 23,253 fresh COVID 19 cases; death toll crosses 60,000

Kerala reported 23,253 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 27.38 per cent. The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-4441, Thiruvananthapuram- 2673, Kottayam-2531, Kollam-2318, Thrissur-1790, Kozhikode-1597, Alappuzha-1405, Pathanamthitta-1223, Malappuram-1200, Idukki-1052, Kannur-966, Palakkad-866, Wayanad-803 and Kasaragod-379.

A total of 84,919 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 4,23,059 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 4,23,059 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 8194 people are in hospitals. 1285 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday. Among the 2,58,188 active Covid cases reported, only 3.3 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals. Along with 29 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 198 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 627 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 60,793 in the state.

Beyond the new patients, 53were returned from outside the state. 21,366 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1627 patients remains unidentified. 207 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, 47,882 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-5437, Kollam-2592, Pathanamthitta-1350, Alappuzha-2861, Kottayam-3002, Idukki-1548, Ernakulam-9781, Thrissur-7307, Palakkad-3005, Malappuram-2696, Kozhikode-4450, Wayanad-959, Kannur-2295, and Kasaragod-599. 60,26,884 people were recovered from the disease so far.
