Good news for technologists! IT firms in THIS state have been told to prolong Work From Home until December of next year

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has asked IT companies in the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area to extend the Work From Home (WFH) period until December of next year.

The request comes on the heels of the start of Metro Construction construction on the route.

On August 21, EV Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Broadcasting, and Science and Technology, issued a recommendation to the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).

The advice was made in response to a proposal from the Directorate of Urban Land Transport and Urban Development Department to reduce traffic congestion. The advisory is not required.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) will soon begin construction on the ORR from Central Silk Board to KR Puram. The work could take at least two years to complete.

ORR is home to numerous significant-tech parks and IT enterprises, as well as campuses, therefore this section sees a lot of traffic. The alert warns that if IT companies begin operations, traffic congestion would worsen.

Around 800 enterprises along the stretch employ up to 1.5 lakh IT experts. Currently, IT employees are assigned work from home till the end of the year. The government has requested that businesses consider spreading out the work hours of individuals who come to the workplace. The ORR segment is notorious for massive traffic congestion.

The government has requested that IT companies urge their necessary employees to use public transportation or company cars (buses) instead of their own vehicles. According to the advice, exclusive bus lanes have been established on this section to support the smooth flow of buses.

The Outer Ring Road (ORR) Companies Association has sent queries based on the government’s recommendations and is awaiting a response from the government before making a decision on its request.
