Unveiling Paradise: Andaman and Nicobar’s Coconut Island to Transform into Eco-Tourism Haven

Nestled in the lap of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the pristine Aves Island, colloquially known as Coconut Island, is set to emerge as a vibrant tourism hub. The uninhabited island, renowned for its lush green coconut plantations, coral beds, and untouched beaches, is poised to welcome travelers as the union territory administration paves the way for its exploration. Currently secluded and lacking accommodation facilities, Aves Island is earmarked for a transformation into a five-star eco-tourism resort through a public-private partnership.

The proposal includes a lease arrangement of a 2.75-hectare land parcel to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Limited (ANIIDCO) for the development of this ambitious project. Under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model, an estimated investment of approximately Rs 36 crore is allocated to create a sustainable eco-tourism haven. Envisioned to offer 50 rooms, the resort will cater to a spectrum of activities, from scuba diving and game fishing to forest trekking and nature camping. The venture aligns with the administration’s broader vision to position the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a global tourism destination, fostering socio-economic development and ushering in world-class sustainable tourism infrastructure.

In parallel efforts, the administration has presented a Project Information Memorandum (PIM) encompassing the holistic development of 14 additional tourist spots, including the picturesque Lalaji Bay beach at Long Island, Ross-Smith Island, and Shaheed Dweep spread across North Andaman, Middle Andaman, and South Andaman. With an optimistic response from the private sector, as witnessed during the Investor Conference organized by ANIIDCO, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands anticipate an exciting chapter of growth, poised to allure global travelers seeking an eco-friendly and culturally rich experience.
