Government Launches Comprehensive Quality Education Project to Enhance Language and Numeric Skills

The government has introduced a special initiative, the ‘Comprehensive Quality Education Project’, to enhance the quality of school education. The traditional approach of teaching letters and numbers at the primary level was not yielding desired results. To rectify this, the Education department has formulated a three-year program aimed at ensuring that all students up to Class 7 acquire the necessary language and mathematical skills outlined in the curriculum. The program will involve the appointment of mentors to support both students and teachers at the school level.

Implementation Phases

  • Pilot Phase: The initiative will be initiated as a pilot program in selected schools catering to students from Classes 1 to 4.
  • Expansion: After evaluating the feasibility and effectiveness in the initial phase, the program will be extended to cover classes 5 to 7 in the subsequent academic year. Additionally, the introduction of pre-schools is being considered for the next academic year.

Rationale and Challenges

The decision to launch this project stems from the lack of improvement in the quality of education, as evidenced by the National Educational Attainment Survey 2021.

Children struggling with basic literacy and math skills are more likely to face limitations in various aspects of life, including socio-economic, health, and emotional challenges.

The state’s educational ranking has slipped from first to second place in the Performance Grade Index 2021-22, as reported by the Union Ministry of Education.

The learning gaps exacerbated by the disruptions caused during the Covid-19 period have not yet been completely addressed.

Implementation Strategies

Academic Master Plan: A detailed plan outlining the academic strategies and goals will be formulated.

School Resource Group: A dedicated group will be established to provide necessary resources and support to schools.

Teacher Training: Special training sessions will be conducted for teachers to enhance their teaching methods and skills.

Assessment: A comprehensive three-phase assessment will be carried out each year to monitor students’ progress.

Parental Involvement: Special awareness programs will be conducted to actively involve parents in their child’s education.

Support Facilities: Various facilities and resources will be made available to enhance student performance and overall learning experience.

Through these initiatives, the government aims to bridge the educational gaps, ensuring that every child receives a high-quality education, thereby improving their language and numeric skills effectively.
