Neeraj Chopra Nominated for Men’s World Athlete of the Year Award
Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic and world champion, has been nominated as one of the candidates for the prestigious 2023 men’s World Athlete of the Year award. This nomination recognizes his outstanding achievements in the sport of athletics and places him among the world’s top athletes.
The nominations were made by a panel of international athletics experts representing all six continental areas of World Athletics. These nominations acknowledge exceptional performances at various events, including the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, one-day meeting circuits, Label road races, and other global competitions.
Apart from Neeraj Chopra, the other nominees for the award include prominent athletes from various disciplines. This diverse list features athletes such as shot putter Ryan Crouser (USA), pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis (Sweden), marathoner Kelvin Kiptum (Kenya), and sprinter Noah Lyles (USA), among others.
The selection of the final winners involves a three-way voting process. The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will cast their votes via email, while fans can participate by voting online through World Athletics’ social media platforms. Each nominee will have dedicated graphics posted on Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube, where likes, shares, and retweets will count as votes.
The voting results will be determined as follows: the World Athletics Council’s vote will contribute 50% to the final result, while the World Athletics Family’s and public votes will each hold 25% weightage. The voting period will conclude on October 28, after which five women and five men finalists will be announced by World Athletics on November 13-14. The official winners will be revealed on World Athletics’ social media platforms on December 11.
