Chennai Grapples with Cyclone Michaung Fallout: 12 Lives Lost, Severe Flooding, and Power Outages

In the aftermath of relentless rain caused by Cyclone Michaung, Chennai and its surrounding areas have faced severe flooding and damage, resulting in a death toll of 12. The heavy rainfall led to various rain-related incidents, including the collapse of structures and accidents. The affected regions witnessed rescue operations conducted by personnel using fishing boats and farm tractors to reach stranded individuals.

Relief efforts have been underway, with District Disaster Response Teams (DDRT) working to assist affected communities and establish relief camps. Despite a temporary respite from the rain, concerns over power restoration, infrastructural damage, and health and safety persist. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin highlighted the government’s efforts to address the situation promptly, emphasizing the establishment of relief camps and the distribution of essential supplies.
