The CBI has taken over the investigation into the death of Mahant Narendra Giri

The death of seer Mahant Narendra Giri in Allahabad will now be investigated by the CBI, according to the Centre, which has given its approval for a CBI probe. The move was made in response to a request from the state government.

Mahant Narendra Giri, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, India’s largest sadhu organization, was discovered hanging at the Baghambari Mutt in Allahabad on Monday (September 20). The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has requested that the CBI investigate the death of the Mahant.

“On the instructions of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe has been recommended in the incident pertaining to the sad death of Akhara Parishad chairman Mahant Narendra Giri,” Uttar Pradesh’s home department said on Wednesday (September 22).

On Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh Police formed an 18-member SIT to investigate the seer’s death and detained one of his disciples in Haridwar.
According to the police, a purported suicide note was also discovered, in which the seer wrote that he was mentally disturbed and upset with one of his disciples. Swami Chinmayanand, a former Union minister, demanded a CBI investigation into the death on Tuesday.
