Intense Heatwave to Persist Until Mid-May, Kerala Braces for Summer Rains in June

Weather experts anticipate that the scorching summer of 2024 will persist in Kerala until mid-May, with temperatures soaring to unbearable levels in various districts. Palakkad and Punalur, in particular, may witness temperatures as high as 42 degrees Celsius. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, including Palakkad, Kollam, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kozhikode, and Kannur, until the 14th of the month due to the relentless heatwave. Meanwhile, districts like Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram, which have yet to experience summer rains, are expected to receive rainfall by the end of May.

The central and southern regions of Kerala are predicted to receive summer showers within the next four days, with Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam likely to record higher precipitation. Recent temperature recordings from Kanjirapuzha in Palakkad reached a staggering 45.4 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature recorded in the state. Automated weather stations in various areas, including Erimayur, Mankara, and Malampuzha Dam, have been instrumental in monitoring and issuing warnings related to the ongoing climate changes.
