Thrissur Pooram to be Celebrated Without Ground Rent Hike

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has successfully resolved the ongoing dispute over ground rent for the Thrissur Pooram exhibition ground. The Cochin Devaswom Board, which initially proposed a hike in ground rent to Rs 2.20 crore, has reportedly stepped back from its demand. The decision to maintain last year’s ground rent of Rs 42 lakh for this year’s festival came after discussions during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. The main participants, Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi Devaswoms, had expressed their opposition to the rent hike, and the issue was a point of contention. The matter is currently under consideration by the court, and further talks may be held after the festival.

The Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, intervened in the matter and successfully resolved the dispute during a meeting. As a result, the ground rent for this year’s festival will remain at last year’s amount of Rs 42 lakh, bringing relief to all stakeholders involved in the Thrissur Pooram celebrations.
