Rains Expected to Intensify in Kerala with Thunderstorms in Multiple Districts

The weather reports indicate that Kerala will continue to experience rain on Monday, with the likelihood of moderate rainfall accompanied by widespread thunderstorms. The Central Meteorological Department has stated that there is a chance of sporadic light rain in the next three hours in the following districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kannur.

A low-pressure system is currently situated over southeast Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, with predictions that it will move towards southwest Rajasthan within the next two days. Earlier, the Central Meteorological Department had forecasted moderate rainfall in Kerala for the upcoming four days due to the formation of a cyclonic vortex over the North Andaman Sea.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has issued a warning regarding the possibility of high waves and a storm surge along the Kerala coast until 11:30 PM. Additionally, similar warnings have been issued for the southern Tamil Nadu coast. In response, fishermen and coastal residents are advised to remain vigilant.

Considering the potential intensification of rough seas, authorities recommend taking the following safety measures:

  • Ensure fishing vessels (boats, canoes, etc.) are securely moored in harbors.
  • Maintain a safe distance between boats to prevent collisions.
  • Avoid beach trips and sea-related activities entirely, prioritizing safety.

By adhering to these guidelines, individuals can mitigate the risks associated with rough sea conditions and safeguard both themselves and their equipment.
