NIA Seeks DNA Test for Sawad in Palm Chopping Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is taking a significant step forward in the case of the brutal palm-chopping incident involving Sawad, the primary accused who had been on the run for 13 years. Seeking to bolster the investigation with scientific evidence, the NIA is approaching the court to request a DNA test for Sawad. This development comes after his recent arrest in Kannur, where he had been hiding with a changed identity. The investigation team discovered his prolonged evasion with the assistance of leaders from the Popular Front, and the NIA is set to submit a new charge sheet to the court, marking a crucial chapter in the ongoing probe into the 2010 attack on Prof T J Joseph of Newman College in Thodupuzha.

Sawad’s arrest has reignited the inquiry into the case, which involves the horrific act of severing Prof T J Joseph’s palm by a group led by Sawad, alleging blasphemy in a question paper. The NIA emphasizes that the investigation is far from complete and is poised to seek further custody of Sawad, underscoring the gravity of the crime and the need for a thorough examination to ensure justice is served.
