Veteran actor Mamukkoya passes away, Cremation will be held on April 27

Veteran Mollywood actor Mamukkoya passed away on Wednesday. He was 77. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode for the past few days. The cause of death was a brain haemorrhage. The actor’s demise comes at a time after Mollywood lost its popular actor Innocent on March 26, this year. The cremation will be held on April 27.

On April 24, Mamukkoya suffered a heart attack while attending the inauguration of a football tournament in Malappuram and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Vandoor. He was later shifted to another private hospital in Kozhikode for advanced treatment and had been on ventilator support. Born in July 1946, Mamukkoya began his acting career in theatre and later went on to act in movies.

He made his Mollywood debut in 1979 through the film ‘Anyarude Bhoomi’, directed by Nilambur Balan. Following this, he became noted for his natural acting, versatile Mappila dialect and effortless portrayal of humour roles.

The actor, who is the winner of two state awards (‘Perumazhakkalam’ – 2004, ‘Innathe Chintha Vishayam’ – 2008), has also bagged various honours including Jaihind TV Award for the Best Comedy Artist in Malayalam. He was last seen in Ashraf Hamza’s romantic drama ‘Sulaikha Manzil’ and has several projects in the pipeline such as ‘B Nilavarayum Sharjah Palliyum’ and ‘Nancy Rani’.
