Temperature hits 40 degrees in Kerala; Heat wave ALERT!

Kerala may face a high rise in heat waves in the coming days. The temperature hit 40 degrees in isolated parts of the state. The highest recorded temperature of the year was reported at Vellanikkara in Thrissur, which was 42.9 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the IMD has warned of heatwave conditions in the coming days also.

The summer rainfall received recently could not cool down the atmosphere. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has warned the public about dehydration and to avoid stepping outside during the daytime.
The temperature will touch 37 degrees Celsius in Kozhikode and Kottayam with a two to three-degree Celsius rise.

The temperature crossed 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday in Koothattukulam (Ernakulam), Chemperi, Irikkoor (Kannur), Kollankode, Malampuzha dam Mannarkkad, Ottapalam, Pothundi dam (Palakkad) and Peechi (Thrissur). The temperature in these isolated regions was recorded at the automated weather observing stations.

The electricity consumption in the last two days set a record with the scorching heat. Over 9.8 lakh units of electricity were consumed on Thursday, crossing the earlier record of 9.56 crore units on Wednesday. Compared to last year, nearly 500 megawatts of power have been consumed this year during the night. Meanwhile, the water level in the dams of the electricity board has been recorded as low this time.
