Alappuzha Resident Caught Smuggling Gold Worth INR 25 Lakhs at Nedumbassery Airport

Kochi: A young woman was arrested at Nedumbassery airport after attempting to smuggle gold worth INR 25.75 lakhs by falsely claiming that her mother had passed away. Rajula, hailing from Alappuzha and arriving from Bahrain, was caught trying to smuggle 518 grams of gold.

Her arrival coincided with a shift in customs duty hours. The attempt to pass through the green channel hastily led to Rajula’s apprehension by customs officials. Following a thorough search, it was discovered that she had concealed 275 grams of gold mixture within her shoe, concealed within a black envelope. Additionally, she was found wearing five bangles and a necklace weighing 253 grams.

Investigations revealed that Rajula had not actually traveled due to her mother’s demise. Travelers returning due to bereavement are typically permitted to use the Green Channel without extensive inspection. Exploiting this provision, the woman made an illicit effort to smuggle gold.
