Court rejects the bail pleas of all of the accused in the Palarivattom fly over scam

Kochi : The bail pleas of the four accused in the Palarivattom flyover scam has been rejected by the Muvattupuzha vigilance court on Saturday .

The honourable court has rejected the bail pleas of T.O. Sooraj, former secretary of Public Work Department (PWD), Sumit Goyal, Managing Director of RDS Projects, the company which constructed the flyover, Benny Paul, former Managing Director of KITCO and P.D. Thankachan, Assistant General Manager of RBDC, were rejected by the court.

The Court approved the prosecution’s argument that the accused must not be granted bail when the investigation into the scam was at a crucial point.

According to the vigilance report, cracks and pits were formed on the overbridge within one year after it was opened for traffic on October 12, 2016. Total budget of the flyover was Rs 44 crores.  There were serious irregularities in the contract. An FIR was registered based on this report.

In the FIR submitted at the Moovattupuzha vigilance court, Sumit Goyal, MD of construction company RDS Projects and Nagesh Consultancy, a Bengaluru based company which made the plan of the flyover, were named as the first and second accused respectively.

KITCO officials who approved the plan and Road and Bridges Development Corporation (RBDC) which lead the construction works were added as third and fourth accused respectively in the FIR.
